RGN axle configurations
An RGN is not defined by its rear axle count alone. The tractor, neck, deck, rear group and any auxiliary components work together, and their suitability changes with the load and route.
Read the whole combination
Begin with the tractor and trailer ratings, then map the expected load position. A higher nominal trailer capacity does not guarantee acceptable axle loading or tractor compatibility.
- Tractor ratings and wheelbase
- Kingpin and neck loads
- Rear axle-group loading
- Load centre of gravity
Auxiliary components change the system
Jeeps, boosters and other components can change spacing and load distribution, but they also change turning behaviour, overall length and operating procedure.
- Connection ratings
- Load transfer
- Turning envelope
- Configuration-specific setup
The route determines the final answer
Axle-group direction is preliminary until it is checked against the route, jurisdiction and permit plan. Similar loads can require different combinations on different moves.
- Origin and destination jurisdictions
- Bridge and route constraints
- Seasonal or local restrictions
- Permit and engineering review
Keep axle count and spacing separate
A tridem count does not identify the spacing, suspension arrangement, permitted reactions or the provision for another axle. The TK110HDG reference records its axle spacing separately from its kingpin settings. Preserve those distinctions when comparing another manufacturer’s trailer. A photograph may show optional equipment that differs from the standard specification table.
- Count the installed axles
- Identify fixed, lift, steer and auxiliary components
- Record spacing with its measurement points
- Reconcile the photograph with the build sheet
Give the planner a configuration record
Create one record for the tractor, the selected neck and well, the rear group and every auxiliary component. Attach the load’s actual support positions and centre-of-gravity evidence. The purpose is to make the engineering and route questions specific. Highway Match records the inputs but does not calculate axle reactions or authorize a combination from axle count alone.
- Exact tractor and fifth-wheel rating
- Neck setting and coupling geometry
- Actual load-support plan
- Route and professional-review responsibility
