Outriggers and load support
An outrigger system can support a wider machine only under its intended conditions. Boards, brackets, side rails and main beams all matter.
Document the support system
Record bracket type, spacing, board dimensions and the required engagement. Do not apply the full-width trailer rating to a narrow board without a chart.
- Bracket condition
- Board specification
- Track contact positions
- Main-frame load path
Inspect before loading
Look for bent brackets, damaged pivots, missing retention and decayed boards. A wide photographed silhouette does not establish usable or rated width.
- Locks and retention
- Cracked welds
- Board condition
- Actual installed configuration
Width has more than one meaning
Overall trailer width, usable deck width and installed outrigger support width are separate measurements. Do not use one as a substitute for another. Where a source lists only the overall width, the library leaves usable width unknown until the support arrangement is documented or measured for the actual configuration.
- Overall envelope
- Clear usable deck
- Installed support system
- Actual track or tyre contacts
Carry the support evidence with the load plan
Include the required boards, brackets, retention and support locations in the configuration record. Ask for the manufacturer’s conditions that apply to that installed system. Record inspections and replacements separately from the nominal model specification; the reference page cannot establish the condition of equipment at the loading site.
